Is It Safe to Use an Ouija Board? by Jennifer Scelsi of CSI: Paranormal

The Modern Ouija board was created in 1889 by brothers William and Issac Fuld. Ouija boards became a fast selling product in the early twentieth century, when they were marked as a way to communicate with deceased family members. The Parker Brothers Company contacted the children of William Fuld in the 1960s and bought the rights to the Ouija board, after which the company marketed the boards more or less as a game.

There are two lines of thought as to whether the Ouija board is safe to use. Some people believe the Ouija board is nothing but a game, and the movement of the pointer is caused by involuntary movements through your fingers. These people also believe the "messages" received are nothing more than your subconscious being brought forward.

Many paranormal researchers and other people believe the Ouija board is a powerful tool used to communicate with ghosts or other types of entities. The theory behind this belief is that when using an Ouija board and asking for spirit or ghost to communicate, what you are really doing is opening a portal to the other side, allowing any type of ghost or entity to come through that door. There is no way to control what comes through the open portal. Therefore you can end up with a negative entity, a malevolent ghost, or any number of other things that you don't want in your home.

I can't even remember how many old Victorian era homes are occupied by spirits when they come through this board. You see, in the early twentieth century the use of talking boards and having a séance were common pastimes and sometimes providing an evening of entertainment for the residents of these homes and their guests. They were seen as a harmless way to pass an evening. In reality, many ghosts, spirits, and other unwelcome entities were eagerly invited in to the houses and not made to leave. If, that is, the occupants of those homes even knew how to deal with such phenomena.

My advice is that you do not use an Ouija board, especially if you are already experiencing paranormal activity in your home. The main rule of thumb here is – if you don't know what it is, don't mess with it – which means that if you do not know what type ghost you have or what it is capable of, don't poke it with a stick to see what it does.

In addition, you could draw some other type of entity into your home through the use of an Ouija board, and therefore make your current situation even worse than it already is. Unless you know how to protect yourself from negative entities, and know how to use an Ouija board properly, I would advise against it.
