University of Vermont
Burlington, Vermont
Written by James Paradie
Founded in 1791, the University of Vermont is the fifth oldest college in the United States, this 460 acre land not only has a high success rate for alumni, but is also home to some students who have never even left the campus. Inanimate objects being thrown, lights flickering on and off, doors opening and closing on their own accord have been reported happening on this very much alive school.
The "head" spirit of UVM is named Henry, a student who hung himself in the Converse Hall; some say it's because of bad grades were making him panic, others say he was overworked and alone, and then there's those who say he didn't even commit suicide and was electrocuted. Whichever the case may be, Henry's presence has been felt by currently enrolled students and former students alike; there's the usual indications of a haunting such as: lights flickering on and off, doors closing and opening, and objects being thrown by an unseen force, or messing with a radio. But, there's also other happenings, such as:
A Rocking Chair rocking by itself as if someone is sitting in it, mirrors being knocked off when their bolted into the wall, dorm rooms being rearranged when no ones in there, and a typewriter typing by itself, maybe it's trying to give someone a message from the grave? Even though people think that this is Henry, no reports have indicated of seeing the spirit of Henry, but one can only think that it must be him.
Henry isn't the only ghost who's stayed behind, other spirits have been known to vibrate the floor in the Continuing Education building. An elderly gentleman spirit has been seen gliding across the floor shimmering and shaking as if he's cold, he's also known to knock stuff over and make lights flicker. Other ghosts in this area reports that the ghost of a retired seaman, Captain Jacobs have been seen in the Center for Counseling and Testing.
Ever had that feeling that your being watched? How about being watched by a spirit? The spirit of a man is said to stalk female students in Simpson Hall, where whenever someone feels like their being watched, the room get's freezing cold, and there's feelings of someone being in bed with you when there's "no on there". Is there really no one there?
If your looking to become a success in the world, then going to UVM may be a great choice, but if your also looking for a scare, then it's a great choice. Until next time Graveyard Disciples, this has been another Scared Sheetless. Thanks for reading.

"Love is in the Air" As well as the Afterlife
"Love is in the Air" as well as the Afterlife
Plymouth State University
Plymouth, New Hampshire
Nothing like a good love story to get the ladies emotions going, but if your a ghost hunter, as myself, there is also nothing better (technically speaking, of course) than a tragedy that has left two lovers searching for each other for ages. Let's explore the legends, as well as ghosts, of Plymouth State University.
First, let's start with the ghost stories that are attached to the university before we go into the historical details;
Mary Lyon was madly in love, but her and her lover kept their relationship in secret by hiding in the tunnels that were built for the students so they wouldn't get cold walking from their dormitories to their classrooms. The tunnel collapsed, killing them both and now they both haunt Mary Lyon Hall and Blair Hall.
Here's what happens: sounds coming from the basement of Mary Lyon Hall; students will hear noises and when they go down to investigate there's nobody down there (students are not allowed in the tunnel and parts of the basement are roped off); Mary Lyon is said to haunt the tunnels where she desperately tries to get to her lover after all these years. Another spirit, who has a more negative reputation, haunts Mary Lyon's Hall; this spirit is said to be malicious and has a certain negative energy about the place and a feeling that something wants them out of there.
In Blair Hall; students will lock the doors, shut the lights off, and leave when they come back the lights are turned on and drawers are pulled open and this is said to be where Lyon's lover haunts. Rowdy students? We can't always blame them.
Another Hall has had a dark past as well, a suicide that has left a young man behind in the land of the living. The young man has been seen before, wearing a jeans and a flannel shirt, floating between floors. People also report seeing objects, such as a punching bag, swaying back and forth as if someone is punching it, but there's nobody there. They also claim to hear balls bouncing and the feeling of being watched, but their not by the living at least.
Here comes the most unfortunate part of all this, since the story is so neat, the legends of the young man in the flannel shirt may be true, but it's time to break the myth: according to my source there has never been a student by the name of Mary Lyon, or if there has, it has gone unnoticed, and the facility is actually named after a highly respected teacher of the same name. Even though the theory of it being a love story between Mary Lyon and someone else is gone, that doesn't mean that the story derives from another love story.
I would like to thank Nick Greenwood for his very informative email regarding the history and what happens in the university.

The Ghost with the Large Brimmed Hat by James Paradie: New London, NH
The Ghost with the Large Brimmed Hat
Colby-Sawyer College; New London, NH

This college has more then just books or pencils, it also has something far more entertaining then any class. It’s legend is that it’s haunted. Or at least that’s what Fiona Boome from Hollow Hill writes in an article about an alumni‘s experience.
Students, faculty members, and visitors alike have told stories about their experiences. The college is known to be one of the most haunted colleges in New Hampshire.
Our story begins in 1969 when Colby Sawyer was dominantly an all girls college and it was very uncommon to see men there unless they were professors, but a freshman was going to see a figure that was going to change her life.
Now, there were male students around, but they were over at Dartmouth College, but seeing them over at the all girls college over at Colby was very rare. But, there was one entity that made this young student look twice.
Colgate Hall is the main building at the school and is the first building you will start as a student. The young lady in this story was in her dorm room the first time she saw the ghost during the day time. The spirit was wearing a stylish coat and a large brimmed hat. This looked peculiar to her as she left to investigate this weird “person” who at the time she was sure wasn’t a visitor from the afterlife. Colby had a reputation of having some odd guests as the theatre had respected productions running throughout the college, but this “guest” was so intriguing that the student had to get a closer look.
She grabbed a notebook to give the look she was going somewhere. The guest was still leaning against the rail of the back door of the Colgate building, his large hat covering his facial features…if he even had any that is; the student stopped to put her shoes on but when she looked up the mysterious guest was gone. After another 20 minutes she gave up on the search, but this wasn’t the last time she was going to see him.
A week later he appeared again. Wearing the same hat, but this time, according to the story, he was wearing a suit instead of flowing coat. The day was fading and this time the student wanted to see who this person was; she approached from the library, she turned her head to look both ways of the road that separated buildings, she looked up and he was still there, but-
He was…evaporating. Vanishing before her very own startled eyes. This experience baffled the young woman so much that she got glasses, because she thought her vision was going mad. That was the last time she saw the Man in the Large Brimmed Hat, but was she the last person to see him?
Colby-Sawyer offers more stories, but I believe this was a good, spine tingling first one. Don’t you agree?
