The Haunted Inn
Littleton, NH
Special Guests: NEPI (Anthony Ardolino, Nikki Ardolino, Nancy Fortin, Val Fortin, and Keegan MacBean)
(Please Note: Do NOT email me or NEPI asking where this location is. I can understand looking for a midnight fright, but we also need to protect the clients privacy as well.)
Though I have been asked to keep the name of this Inn silent, I will give you some clues: it is somewhere around Littleton, it's one of the oldest buildings in the town, and you can bet on it being rumored to be haunted. How haunted? I gave my friends over at NEPI an email asking them questions about their investigation at this confidential haunted inn.
July 28th, 2006 marked a time of celebration in the history of the Northeastern Paranormal Investigations team as this was their first investigation. You only have one time to make a first impression and they were ready. With a tape recorder and three video cameras, they were determined to see if the rumors were true. The rumors, if you are asking, is that this Inn has seen death in one of its rooms. Maids will leave rooms unattended only to return with the TV on. Fans turn on by themselves, and a front desk bell rings when there is no one around to touch it. Most of the activity takes place in room forty-three (43). Was there any activity on this night though?
The evidence, though small compared to my experiences with the NEPI gang, proved to not be a waste of time. They did dowsing rod and EVP sessions that showed mixed results in room nineteen (19) where the death occurred. They also heard footsteps in the hall which was very peculiar as the floor is carpeted. After a few days or so, they went over evidence and saw a white orb coming down the hallway, but who can say it wasn't a bug or dust or something? We do have a saying in NEPI and that is, "Orbs smorbs." They also saw the light in room forty-three go off and then on when nobody was present and it happened it again!
Is the Inn haunted? They said they were excited as it was their first investigation, but they said what they really needed was me to get the spirits to come out, and that my incredible presence in the group wouldn't become true until October 2009, two years later. Okay, guess which part I made up. In all seriousness, they said they can't come to the conclusion if it's haunted or not as there was guests still at the inn during the investigation walking around.
Which reminds me: If you feel like you have any spirits in your house and would like to have NEPI come in to do an investigation, feel free to contact Anthony at 444-7142. We're willing to travel to Vermont, so our neighbors from the west shouldn't delay to call! Also, we're open to inviting some more investigators in our group, if interested give the same phone number a call. Just please remember, we have lives and regular jobs just like everyone else, so we may not be able to get back to your right away, but we will.

My Haunted Garage
My Haunted Garage
So, I decided to take a break from giving a tutorial on how to do your own ghost hunting with instead a story of my own, but don’t worry it will be back next edition. I’ve told you the stories about seeing shadow people in my bedroom, about seeing a blue lady at the Cathouse in Bethlehem, but I got a surprise a few weeks ago and that is my garage is haunted. Oh yes, a place full of sharp tools, chemicals, and sharp tools (wait, I said that) is haunted. Did I mention that this garage is roughly brand new and nothing was there before?
Now, I’ve been living on this land for twenty years and we’ve never had anyone die on this property while we’ve been here. But that doesn’t mean that previous to my time here anyone else had died here. Remember, there is no such thing as a haunted house, just haunted people. Which more or less means that just because you have a brand new house (or trailer, or garage) does not mean that it can not be haunted. You don’t know what happened here before you moved in. Not only that, but there’s been some cases where realtors will lie to their customers that no deaths took place just so they’ll buy the property. Do I know what happened here previous to me moving in? No. After the events I’ve seen (or heard) do I want to? Oh yes!
Let’s move to the story of how I may have come to the conclusion that my garage is haunted. One night, me and my cousin were sitting outside talking about Charlie Sheen’s latest screw ups. No, I’m kidding, I despise pop culture…we were talking about ghosts of course. He was talking about how he really wants to get into ghost hunting and feels he may have what it takes to be a ghost hunter. Well, call it coincidence or just pure luck, but something may have heard us and decided to say hello. We hear the garage door open, close, and then the lights turn off. I thought it may been someone going in to do something, but why on Earth would they turn the lights off? We didn’t see anyone go in or go out. Me and my cousin shared a what the (heck) type of look and decided to go and see what may have caused this. We asked around and everyone said they were inside and that no one had been outside for about twenty minutes. This just happened about one minute ago. Well, we forgot about it until a few weeks ago.
My cousin, who’s name is Tyler (not the same cousin who went with me to the Cathouse on one of my previous articles) had a friend come over to spend the night. He comes over and tells me that they really want to see how a ghost investigation works. I still don’t consider myself a pro when it comes to ghost hunting, but being with NEPI for two years I think I’ve learned the basics pretty much. I grab some equipment, my K-II Meter, and my Olympus audio recorder. We decided to investigate the downstairs of the garage first.
The downstairs of the garage pitch black is pretty scary, because for one, you can’t see a thing and for two, there’s some high candidates to trip over and hurt yourself. That’s why flashlights are important and I made sure both of the teens had them. I sat down at one end while Tyler and his friend sat down at the other. When I do an EVP session (which I almost never do, I let Anthony handle that) I like to start off by saying, “We mean you no harm, so we’d like the same benefit from you. We’re just here to get in contact with you, to see if we can help you by any chance.” I would then ask them for their name and ask them relevant questions of why they are there.
I may have scared them though, because I asked the spirit to take my energy if they needed it. Tyler, on the other hand, decided that he wanted to offer his energy as well. The spirit may have took it, because Tyler said his feet felt like they were on pillows or clouds and he felt funny for a moment. Keep in mind, we just sat down, so the likely hood of his feet falling asleep seems rather impossible. Would he lie about this? My cousin is a well-known class clown at Lisbon Regional, but he’s also very serious and respectful about ghost hunting, so I highly doubt it. Also, Tyler said that the lights on my K-II were going dim, and the batteries on that should be good for awhile as I barely use it. The K-II, for those who are unaware, is used to detect any disruptions in the electro-magnetic field which some experts claim spirits are said to be made from.
After this, I sent them upstairs and I stayed downstairs to try and see if I can interrogate the spirit. With no luck, they came back down, and we decided to go over our EVPs. We weren’t ready for the shock we were about to receive. We stayed in the garage for one hour and caught half a dozen possible EVPs. Some were kind of sketchy such as hearing a phantom banging noise that we didn’t hear. I also got a grim sounding “No” when I asked if it died on this land. Upstairs, Tyler and his friend got the creepiest (but coolest) EVP’s. I won’t name them all, but here’s a few spine tingling ones:
-You can hear something say, “Get out” and then Tyler say that he just got a wicked cold chill.
-Moments without talking you can hear a little girl say, “I don’t want to go back there, (either Mommy or Rick).”
-And one laughing at Tyler.
The reason why I’m putting this here and interrupting my tutorials on how to do your own ghost hunting is because I have set up a date with NEPI to do an investigation here, so watch out for it.
Brand new or not, they can lurk anywhere. Maybe I brought a few home with me on some of my investigations, but I don’t mind, I’ve always wanted a spirit as a friend. Watch out the next time you tread through a cemetery. Until next time, this has been another Scared Sheetless. Happy haunting and keep it scary my graveyard disciples.

Shock, Awe, and Peace by James Paradie - Sugar Hill, NH
Shock, Awe, and Peace
Sugar Hill Inn; Sugar Hill, NH
Written by James Paradie
Published in White Mountain Shopper on May 21st, 2010
April 17th, 2010 will most likely live in infamy with me as well as the rest of the North Eastern Paranormal Investigations(NEPI)as it was just a night of full shock, awe, and peace. It was just one of those events where in one word you can not describe to anyone what it was like. One of those events where you just say, “you had to be there.” There was just so much that happened that you would have to be there to believe it and we had eleven people there to prove what happened as well as video, audio, and picture evidence.
For those of you who are not familiar with NEPI, the group consists of: Anthony Ardolino(leader), Nancy Fortin, Phyllis Ardolino, Michelle LaFontaine, Nicole Ardolino, Keegan MacBean, Lewkis MacBean, Val Fortin, and myself as I joined the group in October of 2009. The guests who joined us tonight were Ron Kolek and Ron Kolek Jr. from New England Ghost Project, and Paul Hayes of the Littleton Record.
The investigation roughly started at about 9:30ish as we had to set up base, we all got acquainted with the guests of the evening as well as a tour of the Sugar Hill Inn for our guests. The Sugar Hill Inn is quite small, but is nice for a place in the back woods of New Hampshire. Touring the Bettie Davis room was quite unique knowing she was at one time present in this room. Was she that night? We don’t know, but Anthony went over a story while we were showing our guests of the night the tour of the Inn and he recounted a story of how he was in Bettie Davis’ room on the last investigation and started singing some of her tunes. After that, Tony said if Bettie Davis is in the room at that moment, then she has permission to poke him and sure enough he felt a poke.
But there was no poking that night. There was just…intensity. Quite honestly since writing this up I still can’t think of a word that sums up that night. Maybe once I go threw everything with yourself, the reader, you can tell me yourself.
After the tour it was time for lights out. Complete darkness inside the, at the time, quiet and inactive Inn. We split up in two groups, let’s just call one Team Anthony and the other Team Nancy. Team Anthony was: Anthony, Ron Kolek Sr. and Jr., Nicole, and Paul. Team Nancy: Nancy, Phyllis, Michelle, Val, and myself. We went upstairs as Team Anthony was downstairs.
But, before lights out even began, the spirits started to make their presence known to their new guests. While Nancy and Phyllis were upstairs they were met by a surprise. Every room in the upstairs has a fire place in it. One caught them by surprise though as they went passed one of the rooms and the fire was going full blast. But, before hand, about a half hour before that, there was no fire’s going at all. I did video tape Nancy and Phyllis talking about this and it is on the NEPI Paranormal Experience page(Look for “Fire Place Starts on It’s Own?”)
Upstairs was already given us a Goosebumps type of vibe. The rooms were different temperature wise. One room would be chilly, one would be warm, and then another would be ice cold. One room seemed to be doing all three. Nothing came about though except for a strange breeze in the hallway; no windows were open at all during the investigation.
We then went into the library were there’s been some activity in the past to do a pendulum session. A pendulum is a chain with a stone hanging from it and the purpose of it is to make contact with a spirit who is either condemned to the property or visiting. Basically what we do is we tell the spirit who we are and tell them to show us a “yes”, a “no”, and a “maybe”. The way the stone swings to either yes, no, or maybe is totally up to the spirit itself, and sometimes we don’t get anything. A lot of people may also think this a fix and that we’re swinging the pendulum ourselves, but Nancy, who always handles the pendulum, has her hand still during the whole process(you can check out a pendulum session on our Facebook page to see for yourself). We believe we got in contact with James Oakes who had died in the kitchen area back in 1800’s. Later we asked if James was the one who started the fireplace upstairs, it said no. Then we asked if he starts the stove in the kitchen, it said yes. We asked if it would stop and it turned no to all amusement and fright for Val as he’s the head cook at the Sugar Hill Inn. Towards the end we got in contact with a child. We asked if the child was in visitation at the Inn, it said yes. If he was with his mother-no. Father-yes. We then switched and got back in contact with Mr. Oakes who was still with us and asked if he had a son-yes. Was he eight? Yes. The little boy replied to yes when we asked if he was with his father and if he was eight, so we believe that this child maybe Mr. Oakes son. Very interesting and intense stuff there(it’s all on video at our Facebook group).
We then proceeded to go into the bar room. We then tried to do an EVP Session, but we all just started chatting about miscellaneous stuff which we always do anyways, because you could go hours without getting anything, but Mr. Oakes was going to keep his promise about something happening that night and he did. When we were talking, we heard a loud bang, Keegan took out his flashlight and there was one of them small, narrow, Shark vacuums on the floor. But, what’s odd, we didn’t see a vacuum and the tip was under the couch that Nancy and Phyllis was sitting on. It get’s odder though, we then purposely started chatting again about random things, because it seemed to us that we got more of a response when we weren’t giving our full attention to the spirit itself. Then, moments after, we heard ourselves talking back. Thinking that was strange I took out my flashlight and saw that my tape player which was actually still recording was playing at the same time. This got us all hyped up and excited, because it’s not a digital recorder, it’s an analog recorder. You have to put some pressure on the buttons in order to get the buttons down to do whichever task they have. Needless to say, the night was just going to get even more interesting.
Ron Kolek Sr. came downstairs, who was apart of Tony’s group, and we were going to try something called “Glass Swirling”. I really didn’t know what to expect from this as we just used an ordinary glass table with an ordinary drinking glass. I believe I have seen this on other shows and was skeptic about it, but you have to see to believe. How Glass Swirling works is that you need to envision yourself in a powerful light and give the spirit your energy to make the glass move. It took a little bit before the glass actually started to move, I tried to get the first part of it recorded but my camcorder doesn’t have a flashlight on it(I know, not great), but I ended up using Tony’s camcorder later that came out pretty good and I will try to post it on the NEPI Facebook page as soon as I can. But, the glass swirling experience was a pretty memorable one as half the time nobody could even keep their hands on the glass. Val, who is a skeptic, or was, then did it and he was amazed as was the rest of us. The glass actually kept on going to Tony for help, because Ron asked which one of us the spirit would like to help it. Sure enough, the glass kept on going to Tony and stopping. The glass would actually go so fast that not only could Nancy, Phyllis, Ron, Michelle, Nikki and Tony keep their fingers on it, but the glass was actually scrapping the table(no damages though).
After that, we got to witness the Frank’s Box. The Frank’s Box is where you use AM/FM frequencies from a radio to get in contact with a spirit. This was also mind blowing as well once we got it going. Ron would ask questions and we’d mostly get a yes or a no. Like for instance, Ron asked if the spirit wanted us to find something and we heard the word “picture.” Then, it said museum. But, the moment of that session was when the spirit said, “Anthony” clear as day. This spirit was really attached to Tony.
It was time for another break as well as saying bye for now to the great fellows from New England Ghost Project-Ron Sr. and Ron Jr. They were a pleasure to be around and if you want to learn more about NEGP go to their official website www.neghostproject.com We started packing, but we weren’t finished yet, we all wanted to do the glass swirling again, and this time we got some pretty intense results.
This time it was Nancy, Michelle, Phyllis, Val, Lewkis, and myself doing this next session. But, with no Tony in the mix we were all curious who the glass was going to go to; the lucky person was Michelle who thought we were doing this on purpose to freak her out. Val was mostly asking the questions this time around which range from what’s heaven like-is it as beautiful as Earth and sure enough the glass started going in circles. Then, he asked is there any grass, the glass stopped right on a dime. But, two fascinating parts about this session was: when the glass stopped it felt like it was spinning on an axis, spinning in place, that freaked us all out because we all felt it. Then, Phyllis-I believe-asked if there is an afterlife. The glass started making figure eights(8). Everyone started going ecstatic, because figure 8’s means eternal life. That got us all excited, but the spirit seemed like it was starting to get weak, so we then thanked it-it went into circles-and then we wished it goodnight and it stopped dead on it’s tracks.
After we said goodbye we all felt like at ease with life. Like everything was going to be okay. We felt at peace.
My Opinion: I believe that the Sugar Hill Inn definitely has some activity within it’s walls. It was an incredible experience, and it left all of us wanting more. I really hope we can do the Inn again as it was awesome.
Update: We did ... and this time it's not so peaceful. Click here to read all about it.
Until next time, this has been a NEPI Paranormal Experience. Take care.

Haunted Lisbon? by James Paradie - Lisbon Town Hall - Lisbon, NH
Haunted Lisbon?(Extended Edition)
2nd Edition: Lisbon Town Hall-Lisbon, NH
Written by: James Paradie

News Paper(Published on February 6th, 2009)
Every town has a myth, a legend, but who created it is the biggest mystery of all. This myth is in the town that I’ve been a citizen of for the past seventeen years, Lisbon. Lisbon is a small town of just 1,587, according to a census conducted in 2000, but is their one more denizen to add to the list?
Our story takes place in the center icon of the town of Lisbon, the Town Hall. The Town Hall began construction in 1901, after it’s predecessor, that was located on main street was destroyed in a tragic fire of 1901. In 1902, the building was near completion and ready to be used. The Town Hall, at one time even had a balcony, which all together(including the 700 seated below)could fit a grand total of 850 people. However, the balcony, which was also called the “golden horseshoe”, was eventually torn down in the 1950‘s, so it could be easier for those to play basketball. If you go to the Town Clerk’s office, and look to your right, on the wall there will be a picture of the balcony. Course, when I was there asking questions about the Town Hall and also getting information of a paranormal investigation that took place there, I found myself observing the picture to see if I could see someone sitting up in the balcony, but nobody was in the picture, or that was visible to the eye at least.
I’ve heard for about ten years that the Lisbon Town Hall is one of the biggest, haunted, hot spots in the local area. I forget who told me the story first. I swear at the age of 20, I already have dementia. The original story of the cause of the haunting has now been deemed as false, but for those who didn’t know the original story, here it is: one night, a worker, in the 1950‘s, hung himself off the staircase, and the rest you could say WAS a haunted history. But when I went to the Town Hall to further investigate this myth, nobody, not even the Town Clark, Charlotte even knew about it and she‘s been working their for 42 years, so like I said, the story is untrue. However, she did tell me that when she first started working there, she had the night shift, and would hear someone walking down or up the steps when she was the only person in the building.
The ghost does like to keep everyone on their toes though, especially the police, who are located on the ground level of the town hall, said that they could hear footsteps on the stairs above, and upon further investigation they were the only ones there. There’s also been other occurrences as well, such as during a 3rd grade play, a girl saw a man sitting on the stairs, and when she asked her parents who that was, they saw nobody there, but the girl still could! Did the girl really see a spirit or was it just those great over reactive imaginations that kids tend to have?

3/18/17 Update: I was trying to find an article for a throwback on the Scared Sheetless Facebook page and I bumped into this one. I did not know this looked weird as it does. I tried fixing it, getting rid of some of the gaps, but unfortunately I couldn't. I will try again. Also, the NEPI website is not in operation anymore, which is why I removed the hyperlink. Pretty much NEPI isn't in operation anymore either. I mean, they'll do an investigation if asked, but we're kind of "officially" disbanded. I don't know. Maybe we'll be back. I do plan on doing an article on my adventures with NEPI soon. I also plan on re-doing this article as it was written when I first started. I tend to really hate my original articles, because I tend to oversell everything, I notice. Like the first paragraph in this made me go, "I actually freaking wrote that." But I mean that in a bad way.

Finally, an investigation was called in, and the North Eastern Paranormal Investigators were the ones called and on October 25th, 2008(how coincidental, six days before Halloween!)the answers were finally going to be answered. I had the privilege of having a on the phone conversation with both NEPI Co Founder’s, Nancy Fortin and Tony Ardolino about the case. They said that they thought the case was a success even though that the weather and the age of the building defiantly played some factors in the investigation. The building is well over 100 years old, so of course it’s going to creek and settle, but as Nancy said that anyone can tell the difference between a house settling and human footsteps. Also, during one point of the investigation, they were upstairs-Nancy and another NEPI team member-and suddenly they heard someone walking up the stairs…at them(keep in mind, NOBODY was downstairs)! If that doesn’t cause goose bumps(or ghost bumps)then I don’t know what will. Also, they brought motion detectors with them and that also went off when there was nobody there. NEPI had a raffle and a meet and greet before the investigation went on where two lucky winners, one male and one female, got to go on the investigation with them. According to Tony they both saw a grey figure or a shadow. Now, when one person see’s it, and nobody else does, then of course anyone’s going to be skeptical, but when two people see it the chances of it being false just about goes out the window. NEPI hopes to do a second investigation at the Town Hall at some point.
Before I end this column, I would like to thank Nancy and Tony for their time to explain how the investigation went. I have a feeling you will be seeing a lot more of the NEPI crew in my future columns. For more information on NEPI, check out their website @ http://www.northeasternparanormal.com/ and if you‘re wondering if you have a ghost in your house, then they‘ll check it out free of charge-donations are welcomed though. I would also like to thank those two wonderful ladies at the Town Clerks office at the Town Hall and Andrea Fitzgerald for giving me historical facts about the Town Hall. Thank you! And, to those Graveyard Disciples out there, Happy Haunting!

Photo was taken by me at the P and D Quickstop in Lisbon. I frequent the store quite often, because my aunt owns the store and she'd kill me if I went across the street. Come in and say hi!
