Paranormal Gadgets: The Ghost Box
No, it's not a ghost in a box, its "real" name is the Frank's Box. The concept of this form of communication was created by Frank Summption, hence the name it's now universally known as, but it does have its other names such as the Ghost Box as said earlier, or the Shack Hat...still trying to figure that one out myself, but one thing is for sure, it is a very unique way to try and communicate with the dead.

Think about it: for awhile I've been talking about using audio recorders to try and contact spirits, but the difference between EVPs and a Ghost Box is when you hear it and how you hear it. EVPs can be listened to in may different ways, the way I do it is that I transfer the data into my computer, sit down, and listen to hours worth of audio. It's great when you get something, but most of the time you will be sitting for hours just listening to you talking to yourself. Good thing NEPI isn't boring or I'd probably be in a comatose state by the time it is over.

This is where the Ghost Box comes in and why it's so great. Instead of sitting and listening to hours of audio, you can hear the spirit voices live. You got this device which can be rigged by someone who knows what they are doing (I'm not technically advanced, I leave it to the pros) or you can buy it online. I bought mine off of Amazon.com for roughly 80 dollars. Sure, they are expensive, but they are a step into advanced ghost hunting. Mine is the P-SB7 which was created by Gary Galka of DAS (the very same one that appeared on an episode of Ghost Adventures) and even though it had one review (which was negative) I bought it. The first night I used it was with NEPI upstairs in my garage and what great results we got.

First, nothing extravagant happened in the garage, so you probably won't see an article on that any time soon, but the interesting aspects that did happen were when we took out the Spirit Box. I haven't found out what happened previous to me and my family moving here, but according to the spirit box some man was shot and killed here by his own wife. Could it be true or were we just hearing things? Well, this is where the creepy stuff starts to happen: about two years back, during an investigation of the Sugar Hill Inn, famed ghost hunter, author, and radio show host, Ron Kolek, first introduced us to the Spirit Box. His was a bit different, not to mention loud, but the things you heard were incredible. It was saying people's names at the table, mostly Anthony, the leader of NEPI, and it was doing it again upstairs in my garage only this time it said Keegan and Nicole's (fellow NEPI investigators-it actually said "Nikki" which is what everyone calls her) name. I mean what are the chances of that? It sweeps through hundreds of frequencies, stations, and it comes back with the names of two investigators sitting in that very room? And Keegan isn't a very popular name either, folks.

But how does the ghost box work in a nutshell? In a nutshell, here's how, with the P-SB7, the model I have, you use the AM frequency to start off with. If you use it, you're suppose to say your names and tell that any spirits are welcomed, except evil ones who will do harm unto you or any other participate in the group. Then, you start with the "sweep" which sweeps through all the frequencies on your ghost box. It goes through different frequencies so fast that you'd think that no one would have time to say anything, but we've gotten almost full sentences before, full words, names, and it's just incredible. You got to think how can it say a full sentence, using the same voice mind you, and the box is still sweeping through the frequencies? Weird stuff, but amazing. There will be a time when I finally will invest in a nice digital recorder so I will be able to post some of our very soon ghost box sessions on my site. Until then, search it on the internet for examples of how a ghost box session works.

Authors Note (Updated Aug. 2011): After much debate I have decided to bring the Devil's Toy Box article back to the website. Reason for it was honestly I didn't appreciate some of the comments people were posting on other sites about how I'm basically an idiot for thinking mirrors could bring demon's out. Let me make myself clear: I did NOT try this experiment, nor will I ever. It sounds dangerous anyways, I'll stick to Pedulum and the ghost box, but anything with the word "devil" in it I've been told by some pretty intelligent people in the paranormal field to stay away. I am a paranormal reporter, I report stories about paranormal happenings, haunted places, and etc, so that doesn't mean I'm the one who made up the Devil's Toy Box. I hate to sound like a cry baby, I know people are not always going to like what I have to say, but if I say I did this, then have at it, but if I didn't, be a little considerate. Anyways, what it all came down to was traffic and the Devil's Toy Box get's a lot of it which means more people can read the other more interesting topics I touch base on. After a year of dealing with negativity towards me about this topic, I hate this article, but traffic brings in readers, so go ahead and enjoy. Just remember: I am not the one who "created" the Devil's Toy Box.

You’ve heard about Ouija Boards, Frank’s Box, Glass Swirling, but have you ever heard of a device named “The Devil’s Toy Box”? This device is somewhat unknown within the community of the paranormal. What’s the reason behind it’s unknowing? Is it because it has the name “devil” within it? Like demonic creatures are going to come in from the mirror, reach out, grab you, and take you the depths of the underworld? No. Or at least that’s never been reported.

The Devil’s Toy Box is where you take six mirrors; you can use any size, but the other mirrors must be of the same size; then, you form a cube with the mirrors. Although who created this technique is unknown at the moment the man who made it popular is fellow paranormal junkie, Joshua P. Warren. Mr. Warren first discussed the paranormal gadget on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory.

But, you take six mirrors of the same size, put them into a cube form…Okay, what else do you do? Do you do any special séance or do you put some witch spell on it? Neither. You simply let it sit and let it do it’s “work”. Supposedly if you were to let this sit for awhile the six mirrors, according to Mr. Warren, cause a back and forth energy loop. Over time you could be hearing strange noises coming from the cube. Growling and other weird noises have been reported coming from the mirror. However, this is only from Mr. Warren’s word and I have not been able to touch base with other reports of anyone else doing this and I haven’t either. Would you do it?

Some would say not, and to stay clear away from anything that has to do with mirrors within the paranormal world. Some sources have told me that negative energy loves to use mirrors as an entrance point and exit from our world to their world. Then, some religions, such as Wicca, use The Devil's Toy Box to capture and remove negative spirits. The Wiccans also believe that the reason they leave is because of the mirrors and they can't stand the sight of themselves.

An Ouija Board may be considered dangerous, but a device that supposedly causes growling noises to come from it? With how neat this device sounds it’s too bad that so little information can be retrieved about it, but maybe there is a reason for that. It could be just some sort of false hocus pocus to get people scared sheetless (no pun intended) or maybe something a little more “devilish” then what it intends?
