Scary (Demo) Review: P.T. - Playable Teaser for Silent Hills

I haven't been this excited for a game since ... well, I'm still excited for Batman: Arkham Knight, but that don't come out until the summer of 2015 (angry face!) But Silent Hills is the second game I'm very excited to ... watch. Yes, watch. After watching P.T. I KNOW I am NOT playing that! I will watch it or try.

I've watched multiple Let's Players try out P.T. and all the walkthroughs I've tried to build courage to watch it without scrolling down, so I don't see the screen, or do other things while listening to it. Only to fail. Simply put, if Silent Hills is anything like the teaser, we're in for the scariest game ever made. I kid you not. I know I toot the horn for Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Outlast (especially it's DLC Whistleblower), but I believe that Silent Hills will be the new King of Horror if it's even remotely like the playable teaser.

My Review:

I'm going to do something different go back to my old style of doing reviews maybe for just this occasion (then again, you know me, I'm not very consistent).

Psychological horror. That's what this is, because it messes with the players mind. This game is on some kind of drug, because you will be seeing abnormalities that you've never seen before. From the get-go, you have no idea what the hell is going on, because you're on an acid trip of terror the whole time. From seeing a deformed ghost, to a human fetus, to a suspended refrigerator regurgitating an infinite amount of blood, we're in for the scariest ride of our lives. I actually pity those who are brave enough to play this.

See. Wasn't kidding.

I may be wrong and may be hung for saying this, but I don't find the previous installments of Silent Hill scary. Creepy, sure. But not scary. I've never wanted to hide my face behind my fingers while leaving my fingers open a tiny bit just to see what's going on. This one made me completely close my eyes and cover them, just in case those sons of bitches decided to open without my approval! Call me a bitch. This game frightened me that much!

I know I'm a paranormal investigator, but if I see this at the end of the hall ... I'm bitching out.

As much as the game makes me want to go buy extra pairs of boxers for just in case purposes, I can't help but to feel a sense of excitement for this game. Was I excited for Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs? Yes. Was I excited for Among the Sleep? Yes. Was I excited for Metallica St. Anger? Yes. What do all these games ... and one album have in common? I was let down BIG time. Aside from St. Anger (I actually only put that as a purpose of comic relief, but the album did suck), Machine For Pigs and Among the Sleep (a "horror" game that you play as a baby - I do plan on reviewing it) had so much hype, potential, only to be a let down. Machine for Pigs wasn't a scary sequel to The Dark Descent, it was a watered down, trampled by pigs, disappointing sequel. I've been waiting for a Silent Hill sequel since watching Downpour and I really enjoyed Downpour. I don't want this to be another Machine For Pigs.

But with Hideo Kojima (the man behind the Metal Gear Solid series) and Guillermo Del Toro (the man behind the Hellboy movies), I can't see where this can go. Del Toro, for one, is one of my favorite directors and I just think he always puts out a solid product. Him getting into the Silent Hill franchise is what it needs. Kojima getting involved could give us plenty of improvements. Time will tell though.

I got nothing more to say about this demo. All I can say is I'm ecstatic, I can't wait, I'm looking forward to shitting my pants! ... Not really. But being scared out of my mind?! Totally. You can watch the full playthrough, courtesy of theRadBrad, below.

Take care!
