Titanic Facts 2
-“I’m the king of the world!” Nope. Jack, you’re not. Although it made for a monumental scene in the movie Titanic, in reality, no one aside from crew, were allowed on the bow section of the ship.
-One of the key companies that wanted to find Titanic? The Walt Disney Company and National Geographic magazine were going to do a joint expedition to find the ship in 1978. Plans changed though due to financial limitations.
-“No Pope” – Some crazy theories always go around after a disaster happens. One had to do with the ship’s hull number, 3909 04, which spelt backwards reads “No Pope.” But someone didn’t look for enough resources, because Titanic’s real number was actually, 131 428.
-Nazi Titanic – Yes, this really did happen. In 1943, propaganda was everywhere and Nazi Germany had their hand dipped into it as well. Fine example is their production of their telling of the Titanic tragedy. Instead of a telling of an ocean liner disaster, which was included in the film, yes, but not as firmly as Germany’s way of saying that Britain is greedy and their nature sunk the Titanic and killed 1,500 people. After the war, the film was heavily banned in western countries, only making sporadic appearances on German television markets. But in 2005, a company finally made a restored and uncensored version of the movie and you can probably find it on eBay or Youtube.
-Speaking of this movie, the Nazi’s requisitioned an old ship by the name of Cap Arcona to be used for the exterior shots of the Titanic, completely renovating it to resemble the famous ocean liner. Sadly, this ship’s fate met a disaster worse than the Titanic’s. A day before World War II ended, British fighter planes fired at and sunk the Arcona, with five thousand concentration camp prisoners inside. They all lost their lives.*
*Just making a quick note about the Cap Arcona: not everyone died, apparently. I will be changing this soon. Sorry about the confusion.
