This college has more then just books or pencils, it also has something far more entertaining then any class. It’s legend is that it’s haunted. Or at least that’s what Fiona Boome from Hollow Hill writes in an article about an alumni‘s experience.
Students, faculty members, and visitors alike have told stories about their experiences. The college is known to be one of the most haunted colleges in New Hampshire.

Our story begins in 1969 when Colby Sawyer was dominantly an all girls college and it was very uncommon to see men there unless they were professors, but a freshman was going to see a figure that was going to change her life.

Now, there were male students around, but they were over at Dartmouth College, but seeing them over at the all girls college over at Colby was very rare. But, there was one entity that made this young student look twice.

Colgate Hall is the main building at the school and is the first building you will start as a student. The young lady in this story was in her dorm room the first time she saw the ghost during the day time. The spirit was wearing a stylish coat and a large brimmed hat. This looked peculiar to her as she left to investigate this weird “person” who at the time she was sure wasn’t a visitor from the afterlife. Colby had a reputation of having some odd guests as the theatre had respected productions running throughout the college, but this “guest” was so intriguing that the student had to get a closer look.

She grabbed a notebook to give the look she was going somewhere. The guest was still leaning against the rail of the back door of the Colgate building, his large hat covering his facial features…if he even had any that is; the student stopped to put her shoes on but when she looked up the mysterious guest was gone. After another 20 minutes she gave up on the search, but this wasn’t the last time she was going to see him.

A week later he appeared again. Wearing the same hat, but this time, according to the story, he was wearing a suit instead of flowing coat. The day was fading and this time the student wanted to see who this person was; she approached from the library, she turned her head to look both ways of the road that separated buildings, she looked up and he was still there, but-

He was…evaporating. Vanishing before her very own startled eyes. This experience baffled the young woman so much that she got glasses, because she thought her vision was going mad. That was the last time she saw the Man in the Large Brimmed Hat, but was she the last person to see him?

Colby-Sawyer offers more stories, but I believe this was a good, spine tingling first one. Don’t you agree?
